Faith and mental health can work together, Christian therapy in Maine.

Christian Therapy in Maine

Faith and Mental Health Can Work Together

Faith can be a source of strength during life's most difficult seasons.

It can provide hope when circumstances feel uncertain, peace during hardship, and direction when life feels overwhelming.

But even strong faith does not make someone immune to anxiety, grief, depression, trauma, burnout, relationship struggles, or emotional pain.

Some of the strongest people in Scripture wrestled with fear, discouragement, exhaustion, doubt, loss, and unanswered questions.

Seeking therapy does not mean your faith is weak.

Sometimes it means you have been carrying too much for too long without support.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

— Matthew 11:28

Christian therapy provides a space where emotional and spiritual struggles can be explored together within the context of professional, evidence-based mental health care.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and psychotherapist serving adults throughout Maine, I work with individuals who want therapy that respects both their mental health and the role faith plays in their lives.

When Faith and Mental Health Intersect

There are seasons when life feels heavier than expected.

  • Seasons of grief.
  • Seasons of uncertainty.
  • Seasons where prayers feel unanswered.
  • Seasons where you continue showing up for everyone else while quietly struggling yourself.

Sometimes people seek Christian therapy because they feel emotionally overwhelmed.

Others come because they feel spiritually exhausted, disconnected, stuck, or unsure how to move forward.

Many people seek support for:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress
  • Depression or emotional exhaustion
  • Relationship and marriage challenges
  • Grief and loss
  • Trauma and painful life experiences
  • Burnout and compassion fatigue
  • Questions about identity, purpose, or direction
  • Spiritual struggles or periods of doubt
  • Forgiveness and healing
  • Church hurt or religious wounds
  • Major life transitions

You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out for support.

A Place for Honest Conversations

Therapy should be one of the few places where you do not have to pretend.

You do not have to appear strong all the time.

You do not need to hide your fears, doubts, frustrations, or struggles.

Faith and questions can exist in the same room.

Healing often begins when people finally have the space to speak honestly about what they have been carrying.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts."

— Psalm 139:23

Christian therapy can provide that space.

A Clinical Approach Grounded in Faith

Christian therapy is not a Bible study and it is not pastoral counseling.

It is professional psychotherapy that thoughtfully integrates faith when it is important to the client.

Some clients appreciate incorporating prayer, Scripture, forgiveness, spiritual growth, and biblical perspectives into therapy.

Others simply want a therapist who understands the importance of faith and values without making them explain that part of themselves.

Therapy is always guided by your goals, values, and comfort level.

Faith Is Welcome Here

Every person's relationship with faith is unique.

Some clients desire a highly integrated Christian approach. Others prefer that faith remain more in the background while knowing their therapist understands its significance.

There is no pressure, expectation, or judgment regarding how faith is discussed in therapy.

The therapeutic relationship remains collaborative, respectful, and centered on your needs.

Hope During Difficult Seasons

There are moments in life when people feel lost, overwhelmed, discouraged, or emotionally exhausted.

Those moments do not define your worth.

And they do not mean hope is gone.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." — Romans 8:28

Therapy can help you process difficult experiences, gain perspective, strengthen coping skills, improve relationships, and move forward with greater clarity, resilience, and peace.

Sometimes healing begins simply by no longer carrying everything alone.
